16 Weeks

We’re 16 Weeks pregnant today! I’m super excited, but have also been feeling pretty awful today. Last night, I woke up in the middle of the night feeling pretty nauseous, and it has lasted most of day. I’m feeling a bit better tonight, thank goodness. I have no idea where this came from, but guess nausea can still happen in the second trimester. I am not complaining, but that will teach me for feeling nervous that the nausea had subsided and being worried that I was feeling too good!

Anyway, now for my 16 Week progress report…

How far along?Β  16 Weeks

Total weight gain? 3 lbs

Maternity clothes? I’m kind of 50/50 on this. I’m wearing some maternity tops, but still getting away with regular clothes for the most part. Yoga pants/shorts, leggings, and jersey skirts and dresses are definitely my go to clothes right now πŸ™‚

I was still able to button my jeans the last time I tried them on, but that was about 2 weeks ago. I have a feeling I’ll need my belly band for those now until I’m really ready for maternity jeans.

Stretch marks? Not yet. I’ve adapted/perfected my homemade belly butter recipe and it’s really amazing. I’ll post a separate post about this in a few weeks. My friend Judith wants to post about it on her green living blog (juicygreenmom.ca), but I’m not ready for everyone to know I’m pregnant yet, so I’m waiting until after I make my announcement to post the recipe.

Sleep: It’s going a bit better. I’m finding a reasonably comfortable position with my maternity pillow on my left side, but I still wake up a lot throughout the night. As a result, I’m still very tired, and if I don’t sleep well or stay up late the night before, I really struggle through my day the next day.

Best moment this week: Getting to see our little guy again and getting a great shot of his privates. He’s definitely a boy πŸ™‚

Miss anything? Sleeping on my back, and I still miss runny, fried eggs and Italian sandwiches.

Movement: I think so. I’ve been feeling some pops and pokes the past 2 weeks or so, and Dr. S confirmed that baby is really active and the placenta is at the back so she said I could be feeling movement by now. I’m really looking forward to being able to tell for sure!

Food cravings/Aversions: Still cravig salty foods and also loving hydrating foods like cucumber and watermelon. I’m also loving orange juice in morning. My aversion to meat is getting better, but certain types, like pork tenderloin, are still not appealing to me.

Anything making you feel queasy or sick: If it wasn’t for last night/today, I would have said not anymore, but after last night and today’s nausea, I’m not sure. I looked it up and I guess it’s pretty normal for nausea to still happen from time to time in the second trimester. I’m starting to feel better now so that’s a huge relief.

Showing? Yep, there’s no hiding it now πŸ™‚ Most of the people who see me on a regular basis now know, but I’m still not ready for the world to know just yet, so I’ve been very careful to avoid having pics of my belly taken and show up on Instagram and Facebook.

Gender: A boy!

Labor signs:Β No! And not for a really long time I hope!

Symptoms: All about the same. I’m still tired and occasionally wake up feeling light headed and dizzy or with a headache. Constipation is still a bit of an issue too. And as of yesterday and today, still feeling nausea off and on.

The most exciting and notable new symptom is feeling our little guy’s first movements πŸ™‚

Belly button in or out? In.

Wedding ring on or off? On.

Happy or moody most of the time: Still very happy. I’m also still pretty emotional.

Looking forward to: Our next OB appointment on August 7th and our anatomy scan which should be the same week or the week after. I’m still waiting for the nurse to call me back with the appointment.

What’s Going on with Baby:

  • At 16 Weeks baby is about 4.5 inches long and weighs about 3.5 ounces and is about the size of an avocado.
  • He can now hear our voices.
  • He’s growing hair, lashes and eyebrows.
  • And he’s forming taste buds.

Here are my belly pics for the past month. I have included my 8 and 9 week images so you can really see the growth πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks hon. Sending lots of hope and prayers to you too. Been thinking about you. I hope your beta on Friday was good and I’m praying so hard for your ultrasound tomorrow!

  1. I am so glad things are going well (even the bittersweetness of the nausea). Your bump is adorable! Wishing you peace and goodness in the coming weeks as you and baby continue to grow.

    1. Thanks hon <3 Been thinking about you a lot. Hope you are having a peaceful and healing summer. Praying constantly that you get some answers and solutions with your upcoming tests. Hugs hon xoxo

  2. I had nausea everyday all the way to 20 weeks :(….but I think I paid my dues because I’ve had a super easy 3rd trimester :). So glad to hear things are going well, you look adorable and are def showing a little!

    1. Thanks hon. I had been feeling a lot better since 14 weeks, so was a little surprised by the reoccurrence, but I’ll take it if it means all is good with our little guy πŸ™‚ So glad you’ve been feeling good in the 3rd trimester. Praying it continues to go well and still hoping your little girl moves into the tight position before delivery so you don’t have to have a c-section.

  3. I love the update and the bump pics! I’m so happy everything is continuing to go well! That’s SO exciting you’re feeling him move!

    1. πŸ™‚ Thanks hon. It really is exciting though I’m still not completely sure that’s what I’m feeling. Looking forward to the upcoming weeks when we will both be able to definitely feel movement πŸ™‚

      1. I know! I finally found the heartbeat with the doppler this morning and it totally made my day! Just a few weeks and we’ll be at the halfway point! πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks hon πŸ™‚ I’m so sorry for your recent chemical pregnancy. Sending you much love and hugs and praying for your new cycle.

  4. Your bump is so adorable! How exciting that you’re feeling movement now. I’m so jealous! My placenta must have formed in the front this time b/c I am barely feeling anything. I could hear little kicks on the Doppler, which was cute! So sorry you’re having a nauseous day, but hoping it will pass quickly for you. As always, thinking of you and wishing you all the best. XO

    1. Thanks hon. I’m still not certain that what I’m feeling is movement, but just going by what my OB said. I’m definitely feeling something… Hope you can feel those kicks soon too. We’re both so close the the halfway point now and I’m sure we’ll be feeling some pretty noticeable kicks very soon πŸ™‚

  5. I repeat *you are so pretty*. So glad you and baby boy are doing well! Thinking of you today. Everything makes me cry so I’m feeling emotional about Holdon’s birthday. XOXO

    1. Aw, thanks hon! Everything makes me cry these days too πŸ™‚ Yesterday was okay. We were sad, but tried not to dwell on it too much. We slept in and then went for a long walk on the beach and then went out for Indian food because I was craving my husband’s mom’s cooking. It was very peaceful day and the food was pretty good, not as good as my MIL’s, but decent. Hugs hon. Thinking about you lots. Can’t wait for your next update. xoxo

      1. I will update you now: we are on vacay in the PNW, and I am 7w0d today, and I am *so sick*. Peeps were not kidding when they said it’s like a hangover. And it’s reassuring. But tough because it’s new and I’m not home. I’ve been taking pics & will post as soon as I can! Much love! XO

        1. I’m so sorry you’re feeling so sick, but hopefully it’s a good sign that all is good with your little one! Can’t wait to see your pics! Hope you can enjoy your vacation a little bit in between the nausea. When’s your next scan?

  6. I am so happy to hear that you are doing well and things are continuing to be rather uneventful! I keep thinking of you and am wishing you continued boringness. Here’s to another healthy week ahead!

  7. I really enjoyed reading this post. So great that you’re recording everything. You look amazing too and I love me some bump pics! Hopefully the nausea will completely go. I didn’t get my meat mojo back until I was close to the third trimester so it’s good you’re able to eat some proteins. I look forward to the next update πŸ™‚

    1. πŸ™‚ I’m glad I’m doing better with meat too. I want to make sure this little guy gets enough protein!

I’m also glad you like the updates. I never know if it will be hurtful for some to see these updates and thought about creating a separate blog for them, but I feel that this new baby’s story is very much part of this whole journey so really want to keep it all in one place. And hopefully our little guy can read through it all one day and know just how much he is wanted and loved.

  8. Looking great! I love the photos – I’ve been so bad about that, but you’ve inspired me to be better about it. I hope the nausea was just a blip and you feel great from here on out. 16 weeks! Woo!
