One Lovely Blog Award

This morning I woke up feeling very humbled and honored because I have been nominated for the One Lovely Blog Award by four of my amazing blogging sisters: My Perfect Breakdown, Spirit Baby Come Home, Infertility U Suck, and Twelve Week Eternities! Thank you so much to each of you for thinking of me and for your continued love and support. Each of you and your blogs are the true definition of lovely. I honestly don’t know what I would do without these amazing women and the entire IF/RPL community <3

The Rules / Guidelines

1. Thank the person who has nominated you. Provide a link to his/her blog.
2. List the rules.
3. Include 7 facts about yourself.
4. Nominate 15 other bloggers and let them know that they have been nominated.
5. Display the award logo and follow the blogger who nominated you.

Here are 7 facts about myself:

  1. I think most of you know this, but although I have been living in the US for 7 years now, I am and always will be a Canadian girl at heart. I was inspired to point this out by My Perfect Breakdown because of her comment about spelling words in Canadian/British English. Eleven years ago, when I first met my SIL (2 years before I met her brother, and my now husband), she brought me back a little present from a trip she had taken. It was this beverage coaster: ColourShe thought it was cute because the word colour was spelt with “u”. At the time, I didn’t realize this would become a cherished gift that I now keep on my desk as a reminder of my heritage while I now spell words like color without the u because most of my clients are here in the US.
  2. My SIL and I were really good friends before I even met my husband. We worked together and became fast friends immediately. Little did we know that 2 years later, she would introduce me to her little brother when we were visiting LA for a conference and it would begin a 2 year long distance relationship that eventually resulted in me moving here and marrying the love of my life. My SIL was very sad to see me leave, but what we gained was so much bigger. We’re now family πŸ™‚
  3. I love nature and the sea, and always feel calmer and happier when I’m out exploring a new trail or walking by the ocean.
  4. I miss fall more than anything. I cannot lie, living in Southern California is pretty much the dream they all say it is. For the most part, now notwithstanding, the weather is amazing and it’s sunshine and blue skies almost every day, but there’s something about fall and the changing seasons that really calls to me.Β  And seeing all the beautiful fall pictures people have been posting lately have really made me homesick. It doesn’t help that we’re in the midst of an insane heat wave right now. It’s not even noon here yet and it’s alreadyΒ 88 Β° F degrees hereΒ  (+30’s Β° C for my Canadian friends) and my AC is still not working! We basically went the entire summer without it because of a huge runaround between our home warranty and the 4 different contractors. We finally decided to upgrade the whole thing so it should be perfect soon, but probably won’t be fixed until after the heat wave is done. I would do anything for a crisp fall day right now πŸ™‚
  5. I’m echoing what Spirit Baby Come Home said and highlighting my absolute love for dark chocolate. The darker the better. I’ve had to really watch myself with it lately because of the higher caffeine content that it has over it’s far less equal counterpart milk chocolate, but I probably indulge in a few pieces at least once or twice a week πŸ™‚
  6. And continuing on food, I love spicy food. The spicier the better. I’ll never forget the first time I met my Indian in-laws. We went for dinner at a Thai restaurant and ordered everything extra spicy. My FIL looked at me with raised eyebrows and asked if I would be okay with that, and I said definitely. My husband came to my immediate defense and said, “she eats spicier food than I do”. I could tell my FIL didn’t really believe us, and I laughed when his jaw dropped when the food came and I added more spice to it because I didn’t find it spicy enough. He said, in my FIL’s very blunt manner, “but you’re white!”, I just laughed and added more spice. I’m pretty sure that was the moment when I was officially welcomed into the family πŸ™‚
  7. I discovered this weekend when I was shopping at Micheals for scrapbooking supplies for the baby shower, that I have an obsession with paper. I now have over 4 very full storage containers full of 12×12 scrapbook paper pads. I buy one every time they’re on sale. I will seriously never need all this paper! I need help! On a side note, if you’re into scrapbooking, there’s a coupon on the Michaels website for 50% off all Recollections stickers and embellishments for this week πŸ™‚

Nomination Time

This is my least favorite part receiving these awards, because I always struggle to nominate only a selection of the blogs I follow. The truth is, I admire and am inspired by each and every one of you, and I think all of your blogs are truly lovely. So this is where I break the rules once again and nominate my entire blogroll to participate. That’s right, I’m nominating all of you!

If you want to participate and you haven’t already been nominated, please consider this your nomination and go for it!

  1. I love scrap booking but my obsession is with the stickers – forever a little kid at heart πŸ™‚ Thank you for sharing your facts! Always lovely to get to know more about people πŸ™‚

  2. I love this! For #6 – I LOVE spicy food!! I travelled to India two years ago for my job and one of the things I miss is the food. I still wont eat fried rice here in the states because I had better over there! For #7 – I am also horribly obsessed with scrapbook paper. I have 3 containers now I think among a ton of other craft/sewing/crocheting supplies. I have a whole closet dedicated to it! Be thankful for your warm weather in a few months – I’ll be worrying about blizzards here in Iowa when it’s time for baby girl to arrive! My friend in LA loves to text me in the winter to rub it in about the weather.

    1. πŸ™‚ I know what you mean! I can’t eat Indian food out anymore because my MIL cooks it so much better then any of the restaurants I’ve eaten at. I’m jealous of your trip to India. We’ve been meaning to go with my in-laws on one of their frequent trips back for years now, but with TTC we had to put those plans on hold. We plan to go when this little guy is old enough to make such a long trip. I just love that we share an obsession for scrapbook paper πŸ™‚ And yes, I know I shouldn’t complain, and will be so thankful to be here when I start seeing pics of blizzards back home too, it’s just that it’s too hot right now. I don’t do well with extreme heat at all.

      1. Oh it would be so nice to have someone to eat Indian food with! My husband hates it so I don’t get it very often. I keep waiting for one of my friends/coworkers to visit our work site again but his trip keeps getting pushed back! Hopefully you can make it over there someday soon! It’s definitely an experience. I wish I would have been able to share it with my husband but he started a new job the day I left so the timing didn’t work out. When it’s all nice and warm the day baby boy comes be thinking of us in the cold/snowy Midwest lol!

        1. If only we were closer! I would love to go out for Indian food with you! I will definitely be thinking about you and sending warm vibes to you and your little girl!

          1. Sounds good! We’re also in the midwest at least once a year because some of my husband’s family are in the Chicago area, so who knows, maybe I’ll be near you after the baby is born πŸ™‚

  3. That coaster might be the best thing ever! Funny enough, when I first looked at the picture I didn’t even notice the spelling – it just seemed normal to me πŸ™‚
My husband also loves fall, so we are normally out hiking lots during this time of year (of course his still broken ankle puts a damper on that this year). But, I’m sure we will be outside as much as possible until our next snowfall. Which means, I’ll probably have more fall photos coming up – I hope my photos aren’t making you too homesick.

    1. Haha, another blogger just said the same thing. It still looks normal with the u to me too. I still pause from time to time when I’m writing it without the u because it just doesn’t look right to me πŸ™‚

Your pics do make me homesick, but in a good way and I love them!. Please don’t stop posting them!!

  4. In South Africa we obviously spell things the Canadian way because I didn’t know what made your coaster different! I also love hot food and think your story of meeting your husband is wonderfulxx

  5. I live in Southern California too and amy dying in this heatwave! I don’t have AC right now either, and I have to take a freezing cold shower before bed and then sleep with cold, wet washcloths all over me, haha. Hope you’re hanging in there ok! I miss fall (and snow!) sometimes too <3

    1. I’ve been doing the same thing, plus we have a ceiling fan right above our bed and I’ve been keeping a standing fan pointed at me all night too. I’m just so thankful we live in the south bay and are only a few miles from the beach. I can’t even imagine how those poor people in the inland empire are dealing with it! A friend of mine lives in Riverside and posted that the temp was 108 yesterday! Hope you’re surviving too!

  6. If you want to enjoy a tiny taste of fall, get yourself to Big Bear in a couple of weeks. It should be beautiful and it’s definitely cooler than down below.

    1. Great suggestion! I have a ton if family coming out for a visit in a few weeks so not sure I’ll be able to make it up there any time soon, but maybe as a short getaway before the baby is born!

  7. I love this! I’m with you on the spicy food (especially when I am pregnant – my need and love of spice increases!) and the paper. I have tons of scrapbooking supplies and can never have enough. Is there a Paper Source near you? It’s my favorite place to pick up paper goods.

  8. I love your #3. R and I hope to move closer to the ocean in the next 5-10 years. He was raised on the southern coast of Brazil, and me?? Well, I just love the sea.

    Well-deserved nomination!!

    Blessings, sweetie <3
