27 Weeks- Flirting with the Third Trimester

Today I’m 27 Weeks 1 Day and according to 3 of my pregnancy books, I am now officially in the third trimester, however other sources say 28 weeks so I guess I’m on the cusp? I’m so confused why the cutoff point for the trimesters isn’t more clear. So I’m just going to go with 27 weeks, but I’m holding off another week before making any real transitions. For example, I have several prenatal workout dvds that I do throughout the week and one of my favorite ones is the Mom’s into Fitness pre and post pregnancy workout dvd set by Lindsay Brin. It has separate workouts for each trimester and a postnatal boot camp dvd to get back into shape after baby is born. I first bought this dvd set in 2011 when we began trying for another baby after we lost Holdon. I think the newer version of this is split into 2 dvds, but my copy has 4. Anyway, the first dvd is designated for pre pregnancy and the first trimester. I did this workout for years hoping I would make it out of the first trimester again one day. Then finally, 3 months ago, I was able to move onto the second dvd and now I am ready to begin the 3rd disk for the third trimester! I know I say this in almost every post, but I am still in awe of this pregnancy and simply can’t believe I have made it this far. I’m still finding the second trimester dvd petty easy to do so I have decided to wait until next week to graduate onto the 3rd disk.

While I’m on the topic of exercise, I just have to say, the Mom’s into Fitness workouts are really great. They incorporate cardio and strengthening exercises with weights that are all focused on pregnancy and taking care of baby afterward. I also do a prenatal yoga dvd by Giam/Shiva Rea and a yoga/pilates fusion workout by Parents magazine which are both really awesome. The 2 yoga workouts have a different girl that you watch as you get further along. I feel like I could still keep up with the second trimester girl, but I’m also excited to be graduating onto the third trimester girl πŸ™‚ – and with my belly getting heavier these days, it’s probably a good idea that I do! These are all available at Target if anyone is interested. I totally recommend them if you have permission from your doctor to workout during pregnancy. I know it’s not always possible, but with my history of HELLP Syndrome it’s really important I stay in shape so I have been really diligent about doing these workouts Monday – Friday with some walks in there when I have time, and then I usually take Saturday and Sunday off as rest days.

Another big milestone for 28 weeks is it will be the furthest I have ever been pregnant. I delivered Holdon at 27 weeks 5 days, so getting to 28 weeks will be huge!

27 Week Progress Report

How far along?Β  27 Weeks 1 Day

Total weight gain? 16.5 lbs! I’m really starting to put weight on now and I can feel the weight of my belly now. It’s really weird. I find myself having to hold onto it sometimes πŸ™‚

Maternity clothes? Yep, pretty much all maternity clothes now.

Stretch marks? Nothing so far.

Sleep: Sleep is much better, but I’m starting to wake up a lot again to pee and baby has actually woken me up a few times from his movements! It’s amazing and I am not complaining at all!

Best moment this week: Feeling little man move constantly!

Miss anything? Sleeping on my back.

Movement: Yes! Lots of movement now!

Food cravings/Aversions: Nothing new. I’m pretty much okay with everything now and I want to eat all the time!

Anything making you feel queasy or sick: Everything is so much better. The constipation was the biggest issue there for a while, but it’s so much better now too. I’m not going to say this will work for everyone, but for me the things that have really helped are Children’s Fiber Gummies, and then just eating foods high in fiber, like kiwi fruit and other fruits and veggies and I’m also sprinkling bran on my cereal. The big thing with all this extra fiber is to increase your fluid intake too so I’m basically drinking water all the time now and the exercise helps too. Hope this helps anyone else battling with this!

Showing? Yes! There’s a big bump going on there now πŸ™‚

Gender: A boy!

Labor signs:Β No! and none are welcome here! Our c-section is booked for Dec 30th and although little man is measuring ahead, I hope we make it that far. We’ll see how it goes. It’s very dangerous for me to go into labor because the internal incision I have from my emergency C with Holdon could open. The good thing is my doctor is already watching me like a hawk and will be monitoring me even more the closer we get to the day and we’ll be moving that date up if anything weird starts to happen so we should be okay.

Symptoms: I still have the weird muscle pain in my upper abdomen, but my doctor said that probably won’t go away at this point so I’m dealing with it. I’ve also been pretty congested the past couple weeks and have had a few nose bleeds.

Belly button in or out? Out! and really dark to go with the dark line that has appeared on my belly. My super dark-skinned Indian hubby has been joking that the baby is turning me brown like him. He’s such a goofball.

Wedding ring on or off? Still 50/50. We’re in the midst of another heat wave with only a short reprieve last week so the eczema on my hands still isn’t great right now and wearing my rings hasn’t been fun. I’ve been keeping my rings off at home and only wearing them when I’m out.

Happy or moody most of the time: I’m so happy! I still have the odd emotional moment, but for the most part, I just feel so blessed and happy all the time.

Looking forward to: Our next OB appointment on October 13th and my baby shower on October 18th. My SIL is arriving on Monday and my Mom and MIL are coming in the following week. I can’t wait to see them!

What’s Going on with Baby:

  • According to the Bump app, baby is the size of a rutabaga at 27 weeks and about 15 inches long and weighs about 2.5 pounds. I forgot to get the actual weight from my doctor at our appointment last week, but he’s measuring ahead so I’m thinking he’s more than 2.5 pounds already πŸ™‚
  • He’s also practicing inhaling and exhaling and even starting to blink.
  • And he’s starting to show complex brain activity which will continue to become more and more complex as he develops from this point on!

That’s it for today. We have our next appointment a week from tomorrow and the big event on that day will be doing my glucose test. I’m still a bit anxious about it and just want to get it over with, but know it will be okay no matter what the result is. There have been a few ladies on here who have been diagnosed with it and they are doing great managing it with diet so I’m sure I will be okay too. I know I’m in good shape, but really have to curb my sweet tooth which has been so hard with this heat! I have been eating ice cream almost every day!

  1. Such an adorable bump! I’ll be thinking about you in the next few days as I know 28 weeks will be a huge milestone for you. πŸ™‚ I was just thinking, I haven’t seen an update from you in a bit. So glad you updated. πŸ™‚

  2. Yeah 27 weeks! I look forward to your 28-week update because I KNOW you will make it. πŸ™‚ Your bump is amazing!!

A lot of ladies on here, and on twitter, have been diagnosed with GD and it freaks me out too. Hopefully neither one of us gets it, but if we do, we will be okay! And ice cream…since the first trimester I’ve had it almost every night! It was the only thing that comforted my nausea. πŸ˜› And since I hit about 14w, my sweet tooth has come back as well. Yikes!!!

    <3

    1. Thanks hon! I’m so blown away that I’m already at this point and it really does feel so different this time that I’m feeling really good about it too!

I was so surprised by how many are being diagnosed with GD too. Hopefully we’ll both be fine! Enjoy the ice cream hon. If it makes you feel better, it can’t be bad (that’s what I keep telling myself too ?).

  3. Awww you look awesome! I’m so glad everything is still going well and the third trimester is here (or close enough!) I hope the next 2-3 months pass quickly for both of us with no issues.

I have to do another glucose test this week. I passed one at 16 weeks but I still get to do the hour one again, boo. Hoping we both pass with flying colors!

  4. oh my goodness! You look adorable and I just know that I am going to squeal with excitement when you hit the 28 week mark! So happy for you!

  5. I love this update and the fact that you are almost to 28 weeks. I, too, have found this 3rd trimester timing to be confusing – every source seems to pick a different week. You look great and I’ll be thinking of you and your next appointment.

  6. These updates always give me so much joy and confidence for you. I had to laugh at the hubby’s comment about your linea negra. That is goofy! You sound really happy. Congratulations on making it to 28 weeks and beyond. I will be sending positive healthy energy your way for the Oct. 13 appointment. Excited for your shower!!

  7. It’s wonderful to hear that you both are well and that things are progressing seamlessly. Blessings to you in the coming weeks.

    With heart,
    Dani

P.S. You look absolutely wonderful <3

  8. Yay! I’m two days ahead of you. My OB says at their hospital third trimester is 28 weeks. It’s confusing. Conflicting information out there.

So happy you made it this far and I hope you make it to the very end xo
I wanna keep baby cooking to at lease 38 weeks. I made it to 32 weeks. I know every week past 32 will feel like the most important milestone in my life!

  9. You look amazing!!! I can only imagine the mixed feelings you will get at reaching 28 weeks. Such a happy milestone but also one you might reflect on the most. I also wanted to say that my first glucose test came back iffy so I had to do the second one and it was fine – apparently my sugary cereal for breakfast could have caused the borderline result! Good luck, but I’m sure you’ll be fine. Look forward to the next update x

  10. Loved reading your update..Look at that beautiful baby belly! I have been soo behind on reading everyone’s posts this month with all the fun I’ve been having! Soooo since you commented about my 2ww I wanted to let you know *something* without posting it to my page for people to see. I just have to tell you! Yesterday, on 10dpo I tested POSITIVE!!!! I spent half the day staring at some suppperrr faint positives, then took the clear blue digital and got POS 1-2. WOO!!! I am still in total disbelief and awe of how the Lord has now answered SO many prayers so specifically. My best friend and I CANNOT believe it!! Already starting my progesterone so really praying THIS is the ONE!!!! So many special details I could share about, and I will one day, but also this baby’s due date is going to be just a week or two off from my first pregnancy. God redeems <3

    1. Oh my goodness! I am so happy for you! God sure does redeem! I’m so happy for this blessing! Sending you and your little one prayer that this is the one hon. I can’t wait until you’re ready to post your amazing news and for updates!

Btw – this baby’s due date is just few days before the due date for one of my miscarriages too!
