34 Weeks and Growing a Super Human

We had another doctor appointment with Dr. S yesterday, and all was perfect, and baby is still measuring over 2 weeks ahead at over 6lbs!!! I texted a good friend of mine after the appointment, and she replied with…

“no wonder you’re starting to get so uncomfortable, you’re growing a super human!”

I couldn’t stop laughing at that, but in all seriousness – holy crap! I still have 5 weeks to go until c-section day, and little (big) man is measuring just a few ounces less than my new baby niece was at birth! Don’t get me wrong, I am beyond thrilled that baby boy is measuring so well! It’s amazing! And Dr. S said, because I don’t have gestational diabetes and I haven’t gained too much weight, she isn’t concerned and the ultrasound measurements should be pretty accurate. Basically, I’m all baby πŸ™‚ She also said with my history, having a big baby is fantastic. She couldn’t be happier with this outcome and neither can we. He could be delivered today and not have to spend any time in the NICU! Having said that, don’t get any ideas little guy! We want you to stay put for these last 5 weeks!

Here’s a pic Arun took of me on our way in for our Baby Care Basics class last week. It’s not the best pic. The lighting wasn’t great, and we took it with my phone, but thought I’d share it anyway.

A Little Post Appointment Adventure

We got a little practice taking care of a baby all night last night. A baby kitten that is. On our drive home from our appointment yesterday, we found a tiny little 5 week old kitten all alone trying to cross the street right in front of us! The poor thing almost got hit by a car! He was so small, I honestly don’t even know how Arun saw him, but he stopped a couple car lengths away from him which made the other traffic stop too. As a side note, I just have to say what an amazing driver my husband is!Β  We held our breath as he crossed the street and then as soon as he was safe and it was safe for me, I jumped out of the car and caught him just as he was trying to crawl into a wheel of a car. The poor thing was terrified. We brought him over to the rescue agency where we adopted our kitties to have him looked at and they hooked us up with some food for really little kitties and then we took him back home to foster him until a more permanent situation could be set up. We weren’t sure what to do because now is not the time to take on another kitty, especially one who needs a lot of attention, but we couldn’t just leave him either. So we set him up in our guest bathroom for the night and spent the night waking up ever few hours to check on him because he was crying and lonely. At one point, I even had to wake Arun up to clean up kitty poop because the little guy is not litter trained yet and managed to get it all over himself and the kitty bed, and I definitely wasn’t about to touch a stray kitty’s poop. The last thing I need is to expose myself to toxoplasmosis with only 5 weeks to go! So there was Arun at 3 in the morning cleaning up a little baby kitty and running a load of laundry for the kitty bed and blanket! And then we both took turns feeding him and cuddling him. Talk about a dry run for when little man comes!

Fortunately, the rescue agency was able to connect us with a wonderful lady who fosters cats and has the perfect set up with little back houses the size of a small room that she has completely designed for making kitties feel right at home. I took the little one there today and was thrilled to see him immediately bond with the older cat who she called the mom cat and two other kittens that were in his new little kitty house. The mom cat got to work giving him a bath right away, and by the time I left, he was playing with the other kittens and even took a poop in the litter box after watching one of the other kittens do it. I just know it will be the perfect set up for him until a permanent home can be found for him.

If you live in the LA area, and are interested in adopting him, here is the info I posted on on facebook today (please note, the foster home is located in Redondo Beach, CA):

Arun and I found this little baby yesterday. He’s only about 5 weeks old and was all alone trying to cross 120th, just east of Aviation Blvd. We found him a really good foster home, but he will need a permanent home with a loving individual or family. He immediately took to playing with the other kitties at the foster home and would do very well with another kitty too. Even at only 5 weeks, he’s super sweet and cuddly. We fell in love with him instantly and almost ended up with a third kitty, but it’s just too much to take on with the baby coming soon. If you are interested in adopting this little guy, please contact Sybille Rogers at 310-720-4311 or at Sybille11@earthlink.net. He’ll be ready to adopt in about 3 weeks after he’s had his vaccinations and been neutered, which is being taken care of by Purrfect Partners kitty rescue (http://purrfectpartners4cats.com). Also, if you’re interested in adopting an older kitten or cat, both Sybille and Purrfect Partners have several other kitties who need a good home too. This pic was taken before I had given him his sponge bath so his face is a little dirty. He’s all squeaky clean now πŸ™‚

34 Week Progress Report

How far along?
34 Weeks 1 Day! Only 5 weeks left until c-section day!

Total weight gain? 22.5 lbs.

Maternity clothes? Yep πŸ™‚

Stretch marks? Nothing so far. My friend Judith will be posting the recipe for my homemade belly butter on her green mom blog next week, I will share a link here once she does for anyone who is interested in the recipe.

Sleep: Not great at all. I just can’t get comfortable anymore, and I started getting lower back and hip pain this past week so laying on my side is getting really uncomfortable, but I’m managing. Totally worth it!

Best moment this week: Seeing little man on the ultrasound again though he doesn’t have a lot of room anymore so it’s getting harder and harder to really make out details now. These days all we see are legs and arms and the odd squished face view, but it’s just so great to see him getting so big!

Miss anything? Sleeping on my back.

Movement: Yes! Lots of movement all the time! Little man’s movements are really strong now and it’s fascinating watching my belly push in and out when moves around.

Food cravings/Aversions: Nothing new.

Anything making you feel queasy or sick: Not really. Just a bit of heartburn, but it’s not that bad.

Showing? Yes!

Gender: A boy!

Labor signs:Β Not yet! Dr. S said she won’t even check my cervix to see if anything is happening because she doesn’t want to get things going. She’s just going to keep monitoring me, but won’t do anything to make me go into labor early if she can help it. So… we just wait for the c-section date and hope I don’t go into labor sooner. I’m seeing her ever week now, so I know we’ll have lots of monitoring and if I do feel any contractions at all, I’m to go to labor and delivery right away. Hope that doesn’t happen. Am I naive for thinking I won’t know if I’m in labor? I honestly don’t know what to expect and I’m afraid I won’t go in early enough, but I guess contractions are hard to miss, right?

Symptoms: Still having some mild swelling of my feet and ankles on and off and occasionally my hands as of this week, but my BP has been great, so Dr. S isn’t worried about it. I’m also having low back pain and hip pain as of the past few days and crazy ligament pains whenever I move the wrong way.

Belly button in or out? Out!

Wedding ring on or off? Still 50/50.

Happy or moody most of the time: I’m so happy! I can’t wait to meet this little guy!

Looking forward to: Our next OB appointment on Monday. We are now going every week. πŸ™‚

  1. So happy to read that little man is growing so well! Super Human sounds like the perfect way to describe him!
I’m not a cat person (we are dog house), but I could totally adopt that kitty if I lived in California! So adorable!! I have no doubt that you and Arun have set that kitten up for a great life!

    1. Aw, I hope so! I really hope he gets adopted soon! It was so hard to leave him today, but I know he’s in the best place for him right now.

      1. I couldn’t agree more. There is simply no-way that you could adopt a kitty right now given that your entire life is about to revolve around your little man once he arrives! πŸ™‚

  2. Yay happy update! You look so great and stylish. I love those shoes! Happy that baby is growing so well. Wow only 5 more weeks to go! So glad that little kitten is now safe and in a nice temporary home. πŸ™‚

    1. I think they are too! It feels like I blink now and a week is gone. Been thinking about you lots. Hope you and baby girl are doing well! As for the kitty, yes, I’m so relieved we were able to find a safe place for him. I hope he gets adopted soon!

  5. So happy to read this. πŸ™‚ you will know when you start having contractions. They are not easy to miss in any case. 5 weeks to go. So exciting!!!

    1. Thanks for the reassurance hon. I know you’re right πŸ™‚ I just remember the dr who did my first c-section telling me I can’t even go into labor with a subsequent pregnancy because my classical incision could open and I can hemorrhage. I freaked me out, but I know it’ll be okay. We’re really close to the hospital and I know my dr will take good care of me to make sure that doesn’t happen πŸ™‚

  6. You look stunning and my favorite part about this post: “Happy or moody most of the time: I’m so happy! I can’t wait to meet this little guy!” Yep, the kitty is adorable, but I love that you are happy.. πŸ™‚

    1. Our two kitties wouldn’t have adjusted well either if we kept him. There’s already so much about to change, we just couldn’t do that to them. I have seen those commercials! They’re so funny! Thanks hon!
