Acupuncture

I had heard a lot about the benefits of acupuncture over the years and was always very curious so after my second miscarriage, I felt it was time to give it a try. I noticed a difference immediately. It doesn’t matter what is happening in my day, when I go in for acupuncture, I feel incredibly restored and relaxed after my treatment and it carries through my entire day. I tend to be a stressed person and after each miscarriage not only is my body healing but I’m healing emotionally as well. I became so stressed worrying about every little thing I did, wondering if it could have caused my miscarriages. Acupuncture is an amazing stress reliever. I think it’s because I’m devoting a half hour to relaxing and living in the moment and not thinking about all my worries. I just let myself be. And if I’m really wound up and can’t relax, they offer guided meditations to help me let my mind go.

After the last miscarriage, my acupuncturist helped me get my body and hormones back to normal and I got my first cycle after only a few weeks after my D & C. This has helped me to feel normal again and I’ll be able to start trying again soon.

Common Questions I Get:

Does it hurt?

Occasionally, I’ll feel the needles go in but it doesn’t hurt. However, I do have sensitive skin so I will sometimes get a small bruise afterward but it doesn’t hurt during the procedure and the bruises heal quickly.

Is it expensive?

Acupuncture can be costly but I think the benefits far outweigh the costs. Also, many insurance companies cover some of the costs.

Do you have to take Chinese herbs?

Chinese herbs are part of my treatment but it may not be for everyone. I’m taking specific herbs and supplements to help balance my hormones and make my cycle work better to have a stronger ovulation. However, since there isn’t a lot of information about the safety of taking herbs while pregnant, my acupuncturist works with my comfort level. For me, I’m not comfortable taking anything during the two week wait when I’m not sure if I’m pregnant or not, so I stop taking them a few days after ovulation and resume again when I start a new cycle.

I hope this information has been helpful. Please note, that I am not a doctor and these are just descriptions of my own experiences. I‘m offering this information if you are interested in trying acupuncture for yourself but please discuss it with your doctor prior to doing anything or taking any herbs.

  1. I myself experienced a miscarriage at about 10 weeks on 24th, November, 2012. This is despite an ultrasound test at 8 weeks that showed a normal and well being fetus. I bled for around 2 weeks following the miscarriage. I received my regular menstrual period on 27th, December, 2012; approximately 20 days following I stopped bleeding because of miscarriage. I went for a pregnancy test following the period and it was negative. In January, we began trying for the very first time to get pregnant and yes, following 5 weeks I tested good. I couldn’t have the ability to express my joy at getting pregnant again following a miscarriage that fast and simple.
